SPP TILMA Montebello and The Council of Canadians
In late spring I started working on a documentary about TILMA (the Trade Investment Labour Mobility Agreement) and the SPP (the Security Prosperity Partnership). The documentary focuses on how these trade deals are being negotiated in secret under the guidance of the largest corporations in North America but without involvement from civil society, the labour and environmental movement, first nations or opposition parties. These agreements are being conducted without legislative or parliamentary oversight or debate and are being implemented through a regulatory process instead.
The SPP and TILMA threaten our democratic process in Canada, they are a race to the bottom in terms of harmonizing standards and deregulating corporate activity in this country, the USA and Mexico. By now many of you may be aware of the Youtube video I posted after Dave Coles of the Communications Energy and Paperworkers union confronted Agent Provocateurs at the SPP protest in Montebello.
